Braces and Crowns

Dental crowns are normally used to treat teeth with large fillings or after root canal treatment. Not many people know that even if you have one or more crowns, you can still have braces.

If you decide to have traditional braces, the brackets are attached to the crowns just as they would be attached to the rest of your natural teeth.

In some cases, crowns are added to teeth after orthodontic treatment, typically this is done when the size and shape of the existing tooth are not correct.

Braces with Implants

Dental implants are typically used to replace a missing tooth. You could lose a tooth via an accident or sometimes you just never had one in that part of your jaw.

Dental implants are surgically attached to the bones in your jaw. Therefore they can not be moved in the way that your other teeth can be.

Normally, if you need an implant, we would recommend orthodontic treatment first, to line up your teeth, fix your bite and make a correct space for the implant.

Or if you suffer from a missing tooth, braces can move your teeth to cover the gap where the tooth’s been lost.

As you get older, your teeth naturally shift toward the front of your mouth. In these instances, traditional braces can move your teeth back into the correct position while the implant stays in place.

Braces and Veneers

Veneers are thin slivers of porcelain that are glued to the front of the teeth. They are often used to improve the size and shape of teeth.

Attaching braces to veneers can damage them or leave a stain on the surface.

We recommend treatment with Invisalign if you have veneers. The aligners of Invisalign will gradually move your teeth without risking damage to your veneers.
